On May 6, 2011, Governors Village’s community manager, Joel Strangis of Talis Management, made this announcement about playground improvements.
During the week of May 9 – 13, 2011, the Governors Village playground near the pool [in Governors Park] will be renovated.
Decayed mulch will be removed and deposited near the open field in the Meadow Park to be spread and enrich the soil in that field. New certified playgrond mulch — 100 cubic yards — will be installed. This is the same mulch used in the Town of Chapel Hill parks and used by the Durham County and Wake Colunty schools.
You will also notice that the area covered in mulch will be expanded based on recommendations from a recent safety study. The contractor will also install underground piping to deal with some of the drainage issues that have plagued that playground.
During construction the playground will be closed for a few days. Please watch for construction equipment and warning tape. It may be necessary to store the mulch in the pool parking lot for a day or two — please keep children away from the mulch pile(s). The piles are not playthings and could be dangerous to small persons climbing on them.
By the way if you have toddlers be sure to enjoy the two new pieces of rocking equipment — a zebra and a pony — in the Fountain Park playground — near the apartments.
