Shown above is the 2011 Social Committee for the Governors Village community at a September meeting. These people answered the call back in early March 2011 when residents were invited to join in planning the community social events for the upcoming year.
Volunteers to this committee plan and stage four major events every year for residents: an Easter Egg hunt, the Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast on pool opening day, a summer pool party, and a Halloween festival, fondly known as Boo Fest.
From September to May the Social Committee also sponsors a monthly TGIS, which brings neighbors together in an informal open-house setting. The first TGIS of the season is Saturday, September 24, 2011.
All of these events have become greatly anticipated traditions in the community. One such event is the Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast and 5K Run, held annually in conjunction with the opening of the community pool. In its sixth year the 2011 event raised over $2500 for the North Chatham Fire Department. [See 2011 photos here and here and the 5K results.]
Social activities continue to evolve as each set of committee members brings new ideas. Over the years the children’s Egg Hunt in Spring has been augmented with a Dog Parade, and this year a fundraiser for CARE animal rescue was added. [See 2011 donations and photos.]
The Social Committee just announced the last of this year’s major events, the annual Boo Fest Halloween festival will be Saturday, October 29, 2011.
