Great Backyard Bird Count Is Underway

The 2012 Great Backyard Bird Count is underway and continues through February 20. Governors Village community residents are encouraged to help document the distribution and movement of bird species across North America. Beginners and experts alike are welcome to observe for as little as 15 minutes and record their checklists online.

Residents who would like to share their bird counts with the community can enter a comment below.

As of 6:05 pm today North Carolina has reported 57,358 birds and 151 species, and ranks 4th in submitting the most checklists.

    Hope some other GV neighbors will share their checklists. This is my first year participating in GBBC. I couldn’t ID all the birds but here is what I saw in 45 minutes on Saturday at and around the backyard feeders. Number of Species: 10
    Mourning Dove – 2
    Red-bellied Woodpecker – 1
    Fish Crow – 2
    Carolina Chickadee – 1
    Tufted Titmouse – 1
    Eastern Bluebird – 2
    Song Sparrow – 1
    Dark-eyed Junco (Slate-colored) – 1
    Northern Cardinal – 6
    House Finch – 2
