Update on Aqua NC rate case

Letters and e-mails continue to pour in to the NC Utilities Commission regarding Aqua NC’s proposed rate increases. The Utilities Commission has not yet determined the dates for public hearings across the state, but we understand those hearings will take place sometime in November and December of this year. Stay tuned – Aqua NC will have to send you a notice in the mail once those hearings are scheduled, and we’ll also let you know as soon as we find out! In the meantime, you can read information about the proposed rates here, and if you’d like to go ahead and send a letter or e-mail, those can go to:

NC Utilities Commission
ATTN: Consumer statement of position, W-218 sub 363
4325 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-4325

Planning meeting scheduled
Clean Water for North Carolina, in partnership with local customers, will be offering some regional planning meetings where you can meet customers from other neighborhoods, learn strategies for organizing your neighbors and what to expect at the public hearings. So far we have scheduled two meetings; more may be scheduled later in the fall:

Saturday, Sept. 28 – 3:00-4:30 pm, Charlotte
Sunday, Sept. 29 – 3:00-4:30 pm, Raleigh
Date and time TBD – Guilford County
RSVP and directions: katie@cwfnc.org or 828.251.1291

Can’t make a meeting or send a representative from your neighborhood? We can send you some materials via e-mail or mail, so stay tuned. THANKS for the efforts so many of you are already involved in to reach out to your neighbors and begin to plan for opposition to these rate hikes!

Yours for safe, affordable water,

Katie Hicks, Clean Water for NC
