Recap: 2016 Annual Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast, 5K Run/Walk, and Kids Triathlon

Thanks to Ted Smith for contributing these photos and narrative

The Governors Village 11th Annual Firemen’s 5K Fun Run & Pancake Breakfast was held on Saturday, May 14, 2016. It was a great day for a race or just for being outdoors. Whether you ran, walked or cheered the runners, it was fun for all. Once again this year, Sparky the Firemen’s mascot was on hand. Runners got off to a quick start and did not seem at all tired as they crossed the finish line. After the run, everyone enjoyed a pancake breakfast, prepared by our Social Committee and served by the Firemen and Firewomen of the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department.

Each participant and volunteer was presented with a special edition blue T-Shirt. Following the pancake breakfast, the Kids Triathlon started. The participants followed the course and for their final lap dove into the pool for the swimming portion of the race. After everyone finished, prizes were awarded and everyone either stayed at the pool or left to begin other weekend activities.

We must all thank Shannon and Adam Novak, the members of the Social Committee and all other volunteers for doing so well with the challenging tasks of planning and leading this event. It was without question a great success.

A Firefighter’s job can be quite a challenge. About 10:00 AM, several of the firemen left in the rescue vehicle (the second truck in the picture) to respond to an emergency. After the incident was successfully taken care of, the Firefighters and the rescue vehicle returned to the pool parking lot. This was all done so smoothly and efficiently that most people were unaware that this event even happened.

Please enjoy the pictures of this special day.

Pool season update

In preparation for the Pool Opening on May 7th, a meeting was held with Trent Leonard (Recreation Committee Chair) and some of the Pool Professionals staff to go over the needs of Governors Village. The meeting discussed the expectations of homeowners and the management of the pool area so that we can look forward to another great pool season.

Recap: 2016 Annual Governors Village Community Yard Sale

Thanks to Ted Smith for contributing these photos and narrative

On a bright, sunny April 23, people came to the pool parking lot to search and find that irresistible item that was bargain priced at the Annual Governors Village Garage Sale. People found items that they didn’t even know they needed and everyone seemed pleased with their purchases.

There was no kitchen sink, but there were two refrigerators, a dishwasher a door for sale and even a zebra!

People would buy a few things, bring them to their vehicles and then return to find more interesting things.

There was something for everyone; women, men and children too. There were a variety of things to please even the most discriminating taste. Grandparents were looking for toys and stuffed animals for their grandchildren. Even if nothing was purchased there was opportunity to chat with neighbors as they too strolled around the parking lot.

Just look at the pictures to see the people that visited and some of the items that were available.

At the end of the day, sellers were pleased at not having to bring things back home and buyers were deep in thought to see how their new purchases might be placed in their homes.

Thanks to Debbi Nichols for once again organizing our annual sale.

As a volunteer, here are some ways you can help:

  1. We need volunteers to cut up fruit the day before the breakfast (Friday, May 13th)
  2. We need a volunteers to take a shift at flipping pancakes and make pancake batter the morning of the breakfast
  3. We need volunteers along the Race route during the 5K Race. This could be as simple as coming out your front door and standing on one of the corners of the street along the race route for about 30 minutes
  4. We need volunteers to help clean up the kitchen after the breakfast and around the pool area
  5. We need volunteers to help store the equipment from the event back up into the pool attic
