New community manager Alina Cochran for Governors Village

New community manager Alina Cochran for Governors Village

Congratulations go to Alina Cochran, who serves as community manager for Governors Village. Alina has been named the 2013 Manager of the Year by the Community Association Institute—North Carolina Chapter.

Alina became the Talis Management Group, Inc community manager for Governors Village one year ago. In that time she has been efficient, professional, courteous and ever cheerful in meeting the challenges of solving our community’s needs. Coincidentally, at the communication committee meeting last Monday members were unanimous in praising Alina’s  responsiveness and helpfulness with the Welcome Committee and website items that came up during the past year.

Here is Alina’s notice to the board about the prestigious honor she received:

Dear Board members,

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you a year ago and for giving me the opportunity to continue to work with you in the upcoming year. It’s been a hectic and productive year… And I have the pleasure to announce that I received the 2013 Manager of the Year award from Community Association Institute – North Carolina Chapter. And for the Facebook users, here is a link to the announcement made by my company:.
Thanks again for the opportunity!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Thank you,
Alina

Congratulations Alina and thank you for the excellent job you do for Governors Village.

Update: Aqua NC rate increase request

Governors Village residents: please see the following update regarding the proposed Aqua NC rate increase. This message was recently passed along by Talis Management. Please refer to the Clean Water for North Carolina website for further information.

Update on Aqua NC rate case

Letters and e-mails continue to pour in to the NC Utilities Commission regarding Aqua NC’s proposed rate increases. The Utilities Commission has not yet determined the dates for public hearings across the state, but we understand those hearings will take place sometime in November and December of this year. Stay tuned – Aqua NC will have to send you a notice in the mail once those hearings are scheduled, and we’ll also let you know as soon as we find out! In the meantime, you can read information about the proposed rates here, and if you’d like to go ahead and send a letter or e-mail, those can go to:

NC Utilities Commission
ATTN: Consumer statement of position, W-218 sub 363
4325 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-4325

Planning meeting scheduled
Clean Water for North Carolina, in partnership with local customers, will be offering some regional planning meetings where you can meet customers from other neighborhoods, learn strategies for organizing your neighbors and what to expect at the public hearings. So far we have scheduled two meetings; more may be scheduled later in the fall:

Saturday, Sept. 28 – 3:00-4:30 pm, Charlotte
Sunday, Sept. 29 – 3:00-4:30 pm, Raleigh
Date and time TBD – Guilford County
RSVP and directions: katie@cwfnc.org or 828.251.1291

Can’t make a meeting or send a representative from your neighborhood? We can send you some materials via e-mail or mail, so stay tuned. THANKS for the efforts so many of you are already involved in to reach out to your neighbors and begin to plan for opposition to these rate hikes!

Yours for safe, affordable water,

Katie Hicks, Clean Water for NC

Alert: Aqua NC files rate hike request

Last month (August 2013), Aqua North Carolina filed their request for a rate increase with the NC Utilities Commission. The document asks the NC Utilities Commission to approve:

  • An overall 19% increase in gross revenues (an additional $8.6 million)
  • An average monthly water bill increase of $10
  • Continued use of the flat sewer fee, with a $10 increase to $75/month
  • A water and wastewater system improvement charge, allowing your bills to go up 5% in between public hearings with no chance for comment

The new proposed statewide rates are:
Water – $20.28 base charge + $6.21 per 1000 gallons
Sewer – $75.28 flat fee

We’ll be in touch again soon about how you can work to keep your bills from getting even higher (or, if you’re not an Aqua NC customer, how you can plug into efforts to keep much of NC’s water in public, local hands!)

Yours for safe, affordable water,
Katie Hicks (katie@cwfnc.org), Clean Water for NC
