Before moving on to the raffle, Amy Gamber reported excellent news for Governors Village’s support of the Food Bank. Residents donated an estimated 1,000 pounds of food and contributed $1163. A match by an anonymous donor of an additional $1163 raised the donation total to $2326. This is double our previous best year!

Sam Shaver, Andrew Dummer, Chris Gamber, and Trent Leonard provided much help with set up and cleanup.

Social Committee member Diane Talley was tireless in organizing this event and these members made valuable contributions: Dominique Gignac coordinated the dinner and helped collect items for the raffle; Linda Kreiter enthusiastically ran errands to make sure we had everything we needed for the event; Shannon Leslie helped collect items for the raffle; Mary Roederer, Mary Shaver, Lisa Marie Taylor and Angela Romatzick were also involved in planning and execution.

Diane stressed it is not just hard work that made this event a success, it is the love of community that each volunteer shares in giving time to this committee.

Donations and Raffle To Support Food Bank

Governors Village tackles hunger! Yes, you read right! Too many people go hungry and they don’t necessarily live in Africa or Asia! They live minutes away from our neighborhood! The Social Committee knows how generous this community can be and we think we can make a difference!

2013 Annual Pool Party - 33Every year we raise food and money for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern Carolina at our Pool Party in an effort to improve the lives of others less fortunate in the broader community.

This year, in addition to accepting food and tax deductible monetary donations (cash or check to Food Bank), we will host a raffle at the pool party. Each family will be given one FREE raffle ticket with additional tickets available for sale at the pool entrance: $1 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5. Watch for the flyer this weekend that will include your free ticket! Remember, for every dollar raised, the Food Bank is able to distribute ten dollars worth of food in 34 counties. The Food Bank has guidelines for food donations.

Diane Talley is seeking ideas and donation items for this raffle by August 15. Read more about how you can participate: Request For Raffle Donations (PDF)
