Governors Village Holiday Activities 2017

The Governors Village Social Committee has planned two holiday events for 2017.  Santa is coming and so are sky-gazing guides from the Morehead Planetarium. See the attached flyer for more details.

Santa Visit

On Saturday, December 16, 2017 Santa will make his annual visit to our neighborhoods riding atop a Chatham County Fire Department fire truck.  Starting at 2:30pm, he will visit in the following order:

#1 – Forest, corner of Raintree Bend & Forest entrance
#2 – Village, corner of Fountain Park & Long
#3 – Townes, corner of David Stone & Loop Park
#4 – Lake, corner of Wicker & access road to Townes
#5 – Park – Pool Parking Lots

Sky Watching—Laser Guided Sky Tour

The Social Committee also has arranged an exciting new activity this holiday season. On Friday, December 22, 2017, sky watching experts from Morehead Planetarium will join us to provide a laser guided sky tour with star charts. They will also bring two telescopes so we can view far off stars and planets.

Learn about the night sky while sipping hot cocoa with neighbors. This family event takes place at the stadium steps in Governors Park 6-7pm (weather permitting).

Luminary Reminder

Another holiday event to keep in mind is the 17th Annual Governors Village Luminary Night December 16, 2017, sponsored by the Watkins Family.

No Trespassing Signs- Clarification

Debbi Nichols, chair of the Governors Village Architectural Review Board (ARB) has provided a clarification on signage in the community.

Good evening,
At the annual HOA meeting last night, the Chatham County Police Department discussed the recent incident involving men in a white van canvassing the neighborhood. He had some suggestions for your safety- do not allow strange people inside your house, instruct the person to get off your property, etc. The topic of No Trespassing signs was raised.

For clarification, signs are not allowed in our neighborhoods without ARB approval. The ARB will take this under advisement at our next meeting. Yard signs will not be allowed.

This issue has come up infrequently in the past- people selling magazines, cleaning supplies, meat, furniture. This recent encounter was the first I am aware of that involved threatening behavior towards one of our neighbors. We do have No Soliciting signs at the entrances, but it is difficult for the deputies to enforce. However, in addition to safety, one of our responsibilities is to protect property values. Multiple No Trespassing signs would definitely affect values and our appeal to potential residents.

If you would like to send your comments to the ARB Board for review, please send them to Alina at Talis/ Townes Properties or myself.

Please be vigilant and aware of what is going on the neighborhood, and call the police if you see anything that appears unusual. Wishing all a safe holiday season.

17th Annual Governors Village Luminary Night December 16, 2017

Updated November 17. We now have a coordinator for Governors Lake.  Cathie Heck (12008 Wicker Drive). Still need volunteer to coordinator the Governors Village Townes.

Tim Watkins recently provided information about the annual Luminary Night.

Hello Neighbors – I am sending this message to provide additional details about the 17th Annual Governors Village Luminary Night to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, December 16th, with a rain date of Sunday, December 17, 2017. For this event to be possible, we need coordinators for each area of our neighborhood. This year, we are in need of a coordinator for Governors Lake. If you are interested in serving as the coordinator for this area of our community, please contact me either via email ( or phone (919-969-9840). The coordinators for the Village, Forest, and Park are as follows:

Governors Village – Grace Harris (10044 Fountain)
Governors Forest – Ann White (10026 Hammock Bend)
Governors Park – Tim and Melissa Watkins (30077 Britt)

Our area coordinators will be accepting donations and coordinating the event for their area. In addition to donations for the Ronald McDonald House, there are other ways you can help out with this event, including preparing luminaries, setting them out, lighting them, and/or cleaning up. If you are interested in helping out, please contact your area coordinator (for now, neighbors in Governors Lake can contact me). Be on the look out for a flier in your mail soon after Thanksgiving.

Thanks very much and Happy Thanksgiving!
