Update: Fill the Boot Friday, June 1, 2018

The date for the upcoming social and fundraiser, Fill the Boot Friday, June 1, 2018, is quickly approaching. Join the social committee in helping support our local fire department with a night of food, fun and firefighters.

Activities begin at 5 pm in Governors Park at the pool and playground.

Please come out to help support North Chatham County Fire Department and enjoy an evening out. This marks the 13th year Governors Village Social Committee has sponsored a community-wide social event to assist our local fire department, the only HOA to do so. Let’s show them how much we appreciate their hard work!

Donations will be collected in a fireman’s boot in the pool area. Checks can be made out to North Chatham County Fire Department.

The social committee is excited to announce that Neville’s Quarter will be performing starting at 5:00 pm. They are an acoustic guitar and violin duo out of Chapel Hill. Here is an example of their music.

The fire department has been working hard on creating a fun obstacle course for children to try out their firefighter skills.

Residents also are encouraged to bring Corn Hole and other fun yard games to play and enjoy the evening with your fellow neighbors.

Reminder Cosmos & Cocoa Tonight—Friday, December 22, 1017

Cosmos & Cocoa will be held as planned tonight!  The experts at Morehead Planetarium expect clear skies and a great view of the moon. If you did not RSVP but want to join the party, please do—the more, the merrier!

Join Governors Village residents for a private skywatching session with Morehead Planetarium staff.

Friday, December 22nd, 6-7 PM at the Stadium Steps in Meadow Park, Governors Park

Morehead staff will bring sky charts, telescopes and provide a laser guided tour of the night sky. The Governors Village Social Committee will provide cocoa and marshmallows. Below are tips for the evening:

  • Please dress warmly.  You are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, sleeping bags and flashlights.
  • It takes approximately 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. If you want to see stars and do not plan on staying long, you may want to consider walking to the park to allow time for your eyes to adjust for optimal skywatching.
  • If you happen to live near the park, and it’s convenient for you, please pull the plug on the beautiful Christmas lights from 6-7 pm Friday, December 22nd. It will help the skywatchers view more stars.

This is an event for everyone, please come out and join your fellow neighbors as we learn about the moon, constellations and planets.

Santa’s Visit To Governors Village 2017

Photos and narrative courtesy Ted Smith.

On the bright, sunshiny afternoon of December 16, 2017 Santa visited the Governors Village neighborhoods on his way back to his North Pole workshop. His reindeer were being well cared for by the Chatham County Firefighters as they drove him around in their fire truck giving the reindeer including Rudolph a well deserved rest.

The Governors Village Social Committee arranged for this visit and Santa brought lots of candy canes for everyone. Children of all ages came out to welcome Santa and the children were able to let him know the gift they really, really wanted this Christmas. The children said they were never naughty always very well behaved. Santa listened to their wishes and gave each boy and girl a candy cane made by Mrs. Claus. Even a couple of four-legged friends came to see Santa.

At each neighborhood parents were able to take family photos before Santa had to leave to head North. His sleigh and reindeer were at the firehouse all ready for the trip back.

Click to view the slideshow from Santa’s visit.

Merry Christmas to all and may all your sweet dreams come true.
